1. Forklift Licence Victoria – Need To Be Over 18

Although there aren't many pre conditions to get a forklift licence in Victoria, the most important is that you are over the age of 18. If you are younger than 18, you will have to wait until you reach that age to go for your forklift licence. There are exemptions granted by Worksafe Victoria for exceptional circumstances. Although it is unclear what these exeptions are, what is clear is this. Your employer will be required to make this application.

2. Forklift Licence Victoria – You Need To Pass Your Forklift Licence Test

To obtain your forklift licence, you will also need to be assessed and pass your forklift licence assessment. Now, to pass your forklift licence assessment, you will need to complete a thorough forklift training course. As you probably know, forklift training courses will consist of both practical and theory components. At the successful completion of forklift training, you will then be required to site the orklift licence test. An approved assessor will conduct the forklift licence test.  

3. Forklift Licence Victoria – What Is In The Practical Forklift Licence Test

The first part of your Practical Assessment requires you to perform a hazard assessment. Having completed this, you will be required, amongst other topics, to perform some pre-operational and operational checks of the machine. 

On completion of these elements, you will be required, amongst other topics, to perform the load shifting part of your assessment. This will require low, mid and high level lifts, and manoeuvering through a course to demonstrate that you have good control of the machine. Upon completion of this load shifting you will be instructed to shutdown the machine and secure the site. 

The reason for all this is to make sure you are competant and a safe operator of a forklift.

4. Forklift Licence Victoria – What Is In The Theory Part Of The Test

Your theory test is a written test. It comprises 52 questions from a total of 97. These questions are taken from the Worksafe Victoria questions guide.  You will not be tested on anything that is not within the 97 questions.

There are 30 "Critical Questions" (they are marked with a star) in your theory assessment, and all must be answered correctly. 

There are also another 22 questions which will make up the  remaining questions of the test. You will requireat least a 75% pass rate from these remaining questions. 

Therefore, the theory component of the forklift licence test will require you to successfully answer 52 questions in total.

5. Forklift Licence Victoria – Submit Your Application To Worksafe Victoria

Once you have successfully passed your test and deemed competant and safe, the assessor will grant you with "Notice of Assessment"(NOA). After you have recieved this, you can begin to apply for your Forklift licence and operate for a period of 60 days.

However, within 60 days, you are required to submit your application, together with an application of $60 to Worksafe Victoria through your local post office. 

After your forklift licence has been issued, your licence will be valid for 5 years.

6. Forklift Licence Victoria – What Types Of Courses Are Offered

There are many forklift training courses which are offered in Victoria. Some offer one day, two day and even four day forklift training programs. The forklift training course you will be required to undertake will depend on how much experience you have on a forklift.

In all of these forklift training programs, you will learn about pre operational checklists you should go through prior to beginning work.

You will also learn about operational checks on the forklift. From here you will discover about load shifting and he shutting down and securing of the site.

The trainer will also thoroughly go through each question of the forklift theory component.
